Mililani Shotokan is a Shotokan Karate of America (SKA) dojo. We practice at the Mililani YMCA (Map) on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. We teach a very traditional form of Shotokan Karate. Tsutomu Ohshima, founder of Shotokan Karate of America, is a direct student of Master Funakoshi, the founder of the Shotokan style of karate. Mr. Ohshima came to the United States in 1952 and created Shotokan Karate of America in 1956 to teach karate as he had learned it from Master Funakoshi.
Our practices are part of the Mililani YMCA program. If you wish to join our dojo you must register for the class with the Mililani YMCA. Visitors are welcome but must sign a YMCA waiver prior to practice.
If you wish to test for rank, you must also join Shotokan Karate of America ($75 for the remainder of the year). As a member of SKA you will be able to attend any SKA regional, national, and international event open to your rank, and you’ll be able to test for rank twice per year at no charge. Right- or left-click here for a description of the test requirements. Black belt testing is also free, but by invitation only.
2016 marked the 60th anniversary of SKA which was celebrated by three days of practice and events which were attended by SKA members and affiliates who gathered from around the world. The video below gives an idea of the celebration. Check out the SKA website for more information about Shotokan Karate of America.
